IMG_9935we took monday off to visit the denver museum of nature and science, located inside city park, here in denver! it was a fantastic, gorgeous day, and we discovered the museum has one of the best views of downtown denver and the mountains in the background! we spent a good amount of time outside, soaking the sunshine, enjoying the gorgeous view.

IMG_9919 IMG_9934 IMG_9947IMG_9933it was our first time at the museum. i gotta say, i was not impressed. after visiting the museum in new york (the new york natural history museum), you can’t really be impressed with the cheap version in denver. sorry, people, but it’s the truth, the comparison is automatic.  we still managed to have fun, though. they had an exhibit about health, where you would create a profile card with your information and you would stop in various stations to collect more information about your health, we had an ekg, we rode a bike for a few minutes, it was super cool and in the end you get a card with your personal info.

photo(25)while biking around the neighborhood last weekend, B. and i stopped by a few apartments and townhouses for sale. our neighborhood is located in an old air force base, and my favorite spaces are the former general quarter lofts. they are modern and gorgeous.

the dream of owning a home is a bit far for us right now. in fact, we joked that today, the best we could do was to own a storage space in the neighborhood. but, we are always exploring and researching what would be best for us, once the time comes.

our neighborhood is quiet, with a lot of couples our age with children. we got to the conclusion that, even though the two of us would like to live downtown, owning a place in Lowry would be great for our future baby mael shugrue. there are just so many parks, open space, playgrounds and the east side of town is so much warmers and sunnier. B. and the baby can play soccer in the grass all sunday long. i love it here!

what a perfect sunday with B.!

after work, he invited me to to go on a bike date. since moving to denver, bike dates are our favorite type of date. we decided on a route and left home. the weather was perfect, it felt like 70 degrees. beautiful. after 6 miles, my ears started to hurt {i know, i’m weird!} and we changed our plans completely, rode back to the beer garden and sat down in the sun to have a few beers.

we also biked to the supermarket {we only shop like that!} and spent the afternoon watching the Screen Actor’s Guild Awards – including red carpets together!

i love you B.!

IMG_9291i could not be happier or more excited about 2013. i have this positive feeling about this year. like everything could happen. that I waited my entire life for 2013. i just cannot explain.

the idea was: start the year on a positive note, keep positive about life, attract good things and fantastic people. the mind can change everything. i’m sure! so far, i’ve quit smoking {i was a smoker for 19 years!} i’ve quit soda. and, while on that process, i worked hard not to add pounds to my new body. my birthday is here, next week, and i feel good about it, i feel young and healthy and have been juicing non-stop.

i’ve also set more goals: to live with less, to live happier, to live with more color, to apply my aesthetics and style to every aspect of my life, to abandon everything that looks ugly or has nothing to do with me or with how i am. B. and I exchanged closets. i really don’t need {and don’t use} our walkin closet. he moved his stuff in there and is over the moon about this new space. i picked up the linen closet and love the process of donating everything that is ugly, big, I don’t like anymore or does not have color and keep only what’s dear to me, and that’s colorful enough to make me smile. it looks so good.

B. asked a thousand times if i was sure, or if i was happy with the exchange. he cannot understand how a woman wants the smaller closet. but, this is the year of less is more. i needed to start somewhere. it helps i lost 65 lbs since 2010 and have absolutely nothing that fits me. like B. always says, this is a nice first world problem to have.

B. will probably have a heart attack when he sees my new board on Pinterest. a dear friend in Brazil is pregnant and we spent an evening on Skype talking about the cutest baby things. she is coming to Miami to prepare for her baby arrival and i was learning everything baby-like and loving it.

while having a baby right now is not a reality for us {we need a little more time alone, enjoying been a couple, enjoying each other}, can I say I see a beautiful, big headed, blonde baby in my future?!?

IMG_9700every year I celebrate my birthday a bit different than other people. instead of celebrating the day (one day only), i celebrate an entire month. {and, no, I’m not ashamed of it. it’s awesome!} i choose a list of birthday celebrations, and try to do a lot of cool things, all within that one month.

this year, to celebrate my 30th birthday, one of the things i really want to do is to visit all the major museums in Denver. we started today, with a visit to the Denver Botanic Gardens at York Street. we had been there before, but it was during the summer time, the place was beautiful, colorful, gorgeous flowers everywhere.

this time  it was very, very different. it’s winter and everything is dead and brown and bare. i don’t know what kind of dream land my mind lives in, i really thought the Botanic Gardens could be colorful even during the winter. they have been advertising an Orchid Exhibit and we were not impressed. there were only half a dozen of orchids. no variety of colors. really, not impressive.

but, the day was gorgeous! 60 degrees outside, the sun shinning, just a beautiful day for a stroll around a bunch of dead plants.

this is the dome of the tropical area they have inside the gardens. it’s almost impossible to be inside for more than 5 minutes due to the combo heat + humidity.
